May 16th, 17th & 18th - 150th Anniversary of The  Battle of New Market Reenactment & Adventure Camp, New Market,  VA
The Battle of New Market Reenactment is a unique historical experience taking place on the original 1864 battlefield.  Experience Civil War soldier life.  On-going demonstrations and living history presentations.  Travel back in history to the sights and sounds of the Civil War with Signal Corps, Artillery, Cavalry, Musket firing, Camp life, Medical Corps and much more.  Battles:  Friday, May 16 @ 3:30 p.m.; Sat., May 17th @ 2:30 p.m.; Sun., May 18th @ 2:00 p.m.  Tickets:  Adults $10 (for ages 10 and over); Age 9 and under, free.  For more information call (540) 740-3101 or (866) 515-1864, email newmarketevent@embarqmail.com.

In addition to the reenactment there will be a 2014 Adventure Camp, May 17th.  Get hands-on with history!  Explore the Battle of New Market as if you were a Union or Confederate soldier or maybe a civilian or even a VMI cadet.  Learn basic drill maneuvers, eat authentic period food, try your hand at 19th century games and get prizes and much more.  Led by trained educators, this program is designed to complement the SOL.  Kids ages 7-12 may register for this special 2 1/2 hour program.  Registration in advance is required.  The cost is $35/child and includes reenactment admission for the camper plus one accompanying adult. For more information or to register, visit

August 9th - 10th Annual Shenandoah Valley Yard Crawl         Shop 'till you drop!  Come out for over 40 miles of business sidewalk sales, yard sales, antiques, food, wine and much more along Route 11 in the historic towns starting at New Market travelling down Route 11 to Stephens City.  Starts 7 a.m. Rain or Shine.  Come early, some sales start Friday.

August 22nd - 30th - Shenandoah County Fair - Shenandoah County
Fairgrounds, Woodstock, VA
The Shenandoah County Fair is celebrating its 9th year from Friday, August 22nd through Saturday, August 30th.  Featuring Pennwood Shows Midway with approximately 30 rides, livestock show and exhibits, 4 days of harness racing, tractor pulls, demolition derby's and national musical entertainment (to be announced).  Various free shows and entertainment on the grounds.  Plus much, much more.  For more information, visit
